The Magic Food Bus rolls from late June through the end of September and is free to everyone!Staffed primarily by volunteers, the Magic Food Bus has grown over the years in size, reach, and complementary activities. 🎵 1pm Shape Note Singing
🎵 1pm Shape Note Singing
07/05/2026 (1 week ago)
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Shape note singing is a system originally devised to teach sight-reading and singing in harmony to folks with no musical background. From its beginnings in colonial America, it now has an international following. Non-performance singing, in four parts, for the joy of the activity alone is a beautiful example of community-based art. No experience or talent is required. We sing for one another; everyone is welcome. Our afternoon of Shape-note singing would include a brief history and description of the music and then simply singing from The Sacred Harp, the tune book most commonly used for this. We will bring loaner books. Cost: $2/person FMI Contact: Maine Shape Note Singing Community Alan Cohen biopestman@gmail.com (202) 669-6363 or Stephen Chace perniciousanemia115@gmail.com (207) 610-2357

🙏 7pm Sonic Yoga Nidra
🙏 7pm Sonic Yoga Nidra
07/18/2026 (4 days from now)
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
There’s a particular kind of exhaustion evolving from modern life — far beyond physical, but cognitive. Emotional. Existential. This Sonic Yoga Nidra practice gently supports remembering: reconnecting with awareness and the sense of inner space that comes with it.
Peter Hile will guide a live Yoga Nidra journey — a practice of conscious rest that gently leads you into the space between waking and sleeping, where the body unwinds and awareness becomes simple again. Peter’s facilitation centers presence over performance, depth over theatrics, and the quiet remembering that peaceful stillness persists beyond experience.
As the Nidra unfolds, integral sound healing practitioner Sen Wilde weaves a live soundscape of crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, and layered instrumentation. Drawing on formal training in sound healing and nervous system regulation, Sen’s trauma-informed approach creates sonic containers that are spacious, immersive, and thoughtfully held. Together, this collaboration helps participants settle from surface overwhelm into a steadier, more regulated inner field.
You won’t be asked to move.
You won’t be guided to effort.
You won’t be urged to fix yourself.
You’ll lie down.
You’ll listen.
You’ll be guided back to awareness itself; invited to remember.
Bring whatever helps you feel supported and warm: We recommend you bring your favorite blanket and any other props to help you feel comfortable, such as a mat, pillow or eye mask.
Rest is where we reconnect with ourselves, so that we can meaningfully and lovingly be present in the lives and communities which we are a part of.
Third Saturday of each month from 7-8:30pm
All are welcome: please no pets or children under 12.
Cost: $25-50 Sliding Scale Donation

💲 8am Big Surry Yard Sale!
💲 8am Big Surry Yard Sale!
07/25/2026 (2 weeks from now)
8:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Gatherings is one of four Surry non-profits hosting simultaneous yard sales in town. Last year thousands of people came through Surry to browse through oodles of yard sale items, stock up on baked goods, buy raffle tickets, and raise lots of money for Surry's non-profits! Our vendors will also be bringing more neat items to peruse.
We have a new food pantry on our front porch and want to keep the porch clear for community members who use it. Please do not leave donations on the porch and instead follow the signs to bring your donations around back and into the basement. This will help us out tremendously in organizing items for the yard sale.
Donations can be dropped off anytime between 8am and 8pm in the basement. Clean items in good condition only. Please do not leave clothes, books, liquids, or old electronics. Furniture can be accepted the week before the yard sale.
Please get in touch if you have questions about suitability of donations: board@surrygatherings.org
